Corfe Castle has had a major conservation project in the last three years. This has been an ideal opportunity for students and teachers to find out what goes on behind the scenes when conservation work is carried out on an important ‘Scheduled Ancient Monument’.
The National Trust has been hosting a series of school visits for students of Year 8 to 11.
Although the conservation work is now completed, we continue to host educational visits that cover historic construction. Pam White from National Trust has a wealth of knowledge and stories, and there are exhibits and hands-on activities. Students will learn about the ancient building methods and materials used at the castle as well as about the skills involved in conserving historic structures.
We welcome creative ideas of teachers who want to combine the visit with their own projects. For example, Dennis Stuart from Budmouth Technology College developed an additional practical session in Mathematics and we saw Ratio, Trigonometry, Pythagoras, etc. applied on the castle grounds!
