Training Helps Sps Group Adapt To Rapid Growth
The SPS Group in Ferndown are leading Brand and Retail instore marketing specialists delivering innovative marketing communication solutions for many well known brands and retailers such as Vodafone and L'Oréal. As part of their strategy to keep the company moving forward in a competitive market, SPS look to continually support and motivate their valued staff.
SPS Group started as a small family run business and have had to adapt quickly to substantial and rapid business growth. They now employ 125 people, many of whom have had to learn on the job and are now starting to consolidate their efforts by gaining a nationally recognised qualification, with the help of The Bournemouth and Poole College.
Martin Phillips, Senior Systems Manager, is training to be an A1 assessor himself and advocates the benefits of using The College’s approach of really getting to know your company to ensure the training is appropriate. He says, “This relationship is key to successful and meaningful training. The course must fit the candidate; if an employee takes part in a course which is above or below their level of experience this can have a detrimental effect. We have also found National Vocational Qualifications ideal; because of our heavy workload we need to minimise the intrusion of training and gaining qualifications on a candidate’s daily work. The College takes steps to ensure that the training is run smoothly, efficiently and flexibly so it is worked around our operation.”
The College has delivered a variety of training at SPS Group including NVQs in Team Leading and Customer Service as well as Management courses and one day professional courses. The training has also helped SPS evidence their commitment to training their employees and to achieving national certifications including ISO 9001.
Martin goes on to say “The continuity of assessor is very important and the training has helped to empower staff with the confidence to bring new ideas into the organisation and suggest changes. It is great when you see the progression of a candidate through the training and then in turn through promotion in the company.”
The training contract is managed by Business Enterprise skills advisor Jacky Grant. Jacky added, “All companies The College works with are different and have different expectations of their training. By getting to know the organisation and understanding their business objectives we can provide relevant training and support. It is a privilege to work with businesses that are enthusiastic about training and can really see the benefits. We can also put measurements in place to identify the impacts of the training.”
The College’s Business Enterprise team offers a no obligation consultation service to find training solutions for businesses of all sizes across the region. To book an appointment or for further information call 01202 205500 or email be@thecollege.co.uk.
