Choices

The Choices programme is for adult learners over the age of 20 years who have moderate learning difficulties and disabilities. Due to changes in goverment funding the way this provision is delievered has now changed.

Students may choose from a ‘pick ‘n’ mix’ selection of up to 4 sessions per week to make a personalised course.
Students can choose from the following topics:

  • Cookery
  • Art & Craft
  • Gardening
  • Community Projects
  • Floristry
  • Animal Care
  • ICT
  • Sandwich Scheme (Café)
  • Budgeting
  • Business Enterprise
  • Work Preparation
  • Beauty Therapy and Independent Living Skills

Sessions are either 3 or 6 hours in length (1/2 or full day) and run from September 2011 – July 2012


Students will work towards an ASDAN qualification in Personal Progression
Some students may benefit from a work experience placement where appropriate

Communication Skills and Support Needs

To ensure that our learners have the best teaching and support there are a few additional points that we think you need to know:

  • Learners have an identified tutor for on-going support
  • Staff team have regular meetings to discuss student progress and welfare
  • Course co-ordinators meet regularly to ensure that best practice and college systems are followed

 

Social Skills, Relationships and Behaviour

AAs part of the course delivery social skills and behaviour management are monitored and addressed as appropriate. Appointments with counsellors, social workers and the college educational psychologist are made in conjunction with parents/carers.

 

Course charges apply as follows:


3 hour course = £442.00 per year including

College registration fees = £12.30 per session


6 hour course = £798.00 per year including

College registration fees = £ 22.20 per session


9 hour course = £1,544.00 per year including

College registration fees = £32.05 per session


12 hour course = £1.154.00 per year including

College registration fees = £44.40 per session


Fees are paid through monthly direct Debit payments across the year
