The Pre-vocational Programme is aimed at students who have moderate learning difficulties, or moderate emotional/behavioural difficulties.
Entry to the programme
16-18 from school
There are links with special, residential and comprehensive schools and their Connexions Advisers in Bournemouth, Poole, Dorset and Hampshire. The College provides link programmes which provide opportunities for initial assessment of a student's potential for college education programmes.
Students from out of county
Somes students arrive from out of county residential provision or students movie into the area with their families. depending on time of application, students are interviewed and are invited to attend initial assessment and starter school.
Via The College's KS4 programme
An opportunity for mainstream schools to access the specific courses during Years 10 and 11 on a full or half day courses which lead onto Entry Level, Level 1 or 2 qualifications.
Programme Curriculum
The Pre-Vocational programme is a either a 1, 2 or 3 year course depending on the student. There are no formal entry requirements, however a learner should be able to benefit from attending the course.
The course content is based around a core structure which aims to develop independence through life skills training which will develop communication, numeracy and IT skills, as well as independent cookery, food hygiene. The students will also take part in community activities.
Timtables are negotiated with each student, depending on their needs and interests. Tutorial support is an important and integral part of the programme. The vocational element of the programme allows students to work in mainstream, specialist areas of the college and choices will be based upon the student's primary learning goal and interests. Vocational choices usually include:

- Small animal care

- Sandwich Scheme - commercial cafe.
Communication Skills and Support Needs
To ensure that our Learners will the best teaching and support there are a few additional points that we think you need to know. Please see bullet points.
- A speech therapist will attend College on a weekly basis;
- Staff have regular weekly team meetings to discuss students' welfare and progress;
- Course co-ordinators meet regularly to ensure that best practice and college systems are followed;
- Learners have weekly group tutorials and 1-1 with personal tutors for support and encouragement
Student Projects
The College currently has two very popular projects run by the Pre-Vocational team and learners:-
- The Sandwich Scheme (a very popular cafe at North Road)
- Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme
