Students on the Cake Decoration and Sugarcraft courses at The Bournemouth and Poole College had great success at Hotelympia 2010, one of the most prestigious catering competitions held in this country.
The Salon Culinaire, part of Hotelympia held at the Excel, London, is a world class culinary competition for chefs with an unrivalled reputation across the world. The College competed in the Salon Display section which included hand-crafted works in fat, chocolate, marzipan, sugarcraft and other foodstuffs.
The students bought home a wealth of accolades including Sarah Baxter winning Gold, plus Usharahi Paranthaman and On Yee Li winning Silver for the ‘Decorated Celebration Cake’ class, Daniel Evans won Silver for ‘Junior Decorated Celebration Cake’ and Donna Taylor took Silver for the ‘Novelty Cake’ category.
Dawn Pennington, lecturer on the Cake Decoration courses commented, “We are very pleased with the outcome, especially as Hotelympia is regarded so highly as a competition in this country. The standard of work is exceptional and has definitely raised the bar for our own inter-college competition being held next month.”
The College is hosting an Inter College Cake Decoration competition for colleges across the South at the Escoffier Restaurant, Lansdowne on Friday 16th April. Everyone is welcome to come along and view the creations on display between 2-5pm, The Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor Mrs Beryl Baxter will be attending the competition at 3.30pm.
