Performing Arts students at The Bournemouth and Poole College were feeling mixed emotions when they found out that Simon Collins, fellow student, was waxing off all his body hair to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Trust.

The waxing took place at The College’s Jellicoe Theatre in-between variety performances of singing, dancing and acting by students on performing arts courses. The hair removing activities began with Simon having his head shaved before bracing himself for waxing.

Simon, who is studying at The College to fulfil his dream of becoming a dancer said, “I personally haven’t suffered from the disease but I do have a number of close family and friends who have been affected by cancer. The show was called, ‘Be Loud, Be Proud’ because life is too short and I wanted to make people laugh.”

One of the main fundraising activities involved members of the audience donating £1 per wax strip to have a go at waxing Simon themselves, under the careful supervision of qualified beauticians.

Simon has raised £600 so far and went on to say, ‘I really want to raise as much money as possible, so I am planning on doing lots of other events that are just as fun.”

The College is currently accepting application forms for all Performing Arts Courses.
