The Bournemouth and Poole College’s Business Enterprise team recently organised a speed networking event for employers and students to meet and give students the chance to gain experience talking to businesses. The event was also an opportunity for the learners to ‘sell’ themselves in the hope of securing a work placement.
Over 40 students took part in this careers event from different sectors in The College including A Levels, Travel and Tourism, Business Studies and Construction and had 3 minutes with each employer to show what they could offer their company.
The employers that took part included JP Morgan, AFC Bournemouth, Greendale Construction, Dorset Business, Premier Inn, Queens Hotel and Keith Spicer Ltd.
One of the employers involved commented, “It was really great to meet the students who were all of a high calibre. They presented themselves very well and I have come away with some interesting contacts. It was definitely a useful and worthwhile afternoon, mutually beneficial to all parties.”
Jan Joy, Business Enterprise advisor and organiser of the event said “This is something we hope to make a regular event to give students who may not undertake work experience as part of their course a chance to meet with local employers and practise their CV and interviewing skills as well as giving them a confidence boost when faced with a formal situation.”
The College’s Business Enterprise team offers a no obligation consultation service to find training solutions for businesses of all sizes across the region. To book an appointment or for an informal discussion call 01202 205500 or email be@thecollege.co.uk.
