Foundation Degree in Culinary Arts has moved to here.

A new specialist school of culinary excellence has been launched at The College to promote the hospitality industry at large, and to encourage more people to gain skills and qualifications for the sector.
The College already enjoys a worldwide reputation for its hospitality and catering training including being named College of the Year 2008 by the Academy of Food and Wine.
The new school will offer a menu of courses designed to tempt the taste buds of anyone considering a career in the restaurant or hotel industry.

Courses

The courses available in The Bournemouth School of Hospitality and Food are:
  • Diploma in Professional Catering, City and Guilds VRQ Level 1 & 2
  • Advanced Diploma in Professional Catering City and Guilds VRQ Level 3
  • BTEC National Diploma in Hospitality
  • Specialised Chefs’ Apprenticeship supported by Waitrose and the Academy of Culinary Arts

Facilities & Resources

You will be trained in a realistic learning environment with industry standard kitchens.
The School has 2 excellent restaurants open to the public one of which is a fine dining restaurant where you will be working throughout your training.
You will be taught by professional tutors who are industry specialists at The College’s Lansdowne campus in central Bournemouth.
The School of Hospitality and Food host a number of industry visits throughout the course and opportunities for paid work experience, dependant on the course.
You will have regular lectures and masterclasses with celebrity chefs and guest speakers.
The School will provide additional features such as attendance at the Hospitality and Catering Show, entry to national and international competitions and a chance to gain extra qualifications.

Links with universities and employers

The School has very close links with Bournemouth University and most local employers in this field as well as links with employers in London, the UK, Scotland and France.
Many of the School’s students have gone on to work in some of the most famous hotels and restaurants around the world.

Your progression

You could progress onto a higher education course with The College or onto a career in the hospitality and catering industry including cruise liners, contract catering, own business, and management of a hotel/restaurant kitchen.
The College offers the following higher education courses relevant to this area:

  • Foundation Degree in Culinary Arts
  • Foundation Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management

Career opportunities in this sector can range from operational staff such as food service, wine service and chefs through to management level, with extensive job options both at home and abroad.
